Hydration Matters: Don’t Forget Your Water When Dieting
When you’re focused on losing weight, it’s easy to think about calories, protein, and exercise while forgetting one of the basics: hydration. Water plays an important role in virtually every function in the body, and your fluid needs can increase when you exercise or spend time in warm climates.
Many people may not realize they aren’t drinking enough throughout the day. And when you’re dieting—especially when eating less food—you may also be getting less water from foods such as fruits, vegetables, soups, and other water-rich choices.
What about caffeine? While moderate amounts of coffee and tea do contribute to your overall fluid intake, relying heavily on caffeinated beverages isn’t the best hydration strategy. Caffeine can have a temporary diuretic effect, so make water your primary beverage and be mindful of how much caffeine you consume.
A simple habit can make a big difference: keep water with you and sip consistently throughout the day. If you’re exercising or spending time in hot weather, pay extra attention to your fluid needs.
Remember, successful dieting isn’t just about eating less. It’s about giving your body the nutrition and hydration it needs to feel and perform its best. Our bodies are made up of mostly water so it makes sense to replace it. On the other hand to much water can damage your kidneys and cause very serious health issues so ask you doctor what's a safe amount of water for you.
